Mikey!

This handsome guy is Mikey.

Mikey cat pretty - SIZED

He came to us when his home that he shared with a group of other feral cats, an abandoned office building, was scheduled to be bulldozed. Lucky for Mikey and his friends, their caretaker wanted a better outcome for them so she searched high and low until she found Rikki’s Refuge.

And because YOU have always supported our mission, we were able to say YES to bringing this group to Rikki’s! We are happy to report that Mikey and his friends are thriving at Rikki’s Refuge!

Jeff Blount Memorial Fund at Rikki’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary

Jeff Blount Memorial Fund at Rikki’s Refuge Animal Sanctuary

Jeff, my cousin, sadly passed away in 2018, the result of a motorcycle accident. Jeff was a kind and gentle soul and most importantly, non-judgmental towards others. He truly respected all life, both human and animal, no matter their background or abilities. He so loved helping the challenged, be it physical or mental, those so often overlooked in a community. He had a gift for looking past the superficial into the true essence of a soul.
Despite limited resources, Jeff happily gave food, money, free vehicle repair, love, kindness and care to those less fortunate. Jeff is remembered by his friends and co-workers as kind, witty, having a wonderful sense of humor, being a talented mechanic who could repair anything, and a creative song writer.

The Jeff Blount Memorial Fund has been established at Rikki’s Refuge by the Blount family to keep Jeff’s spirit of helping others alive. This fund allowed Rikki’s to create Kamp Kindness last summer, with special events, camp, field trips, classroom and group visits, bringing people and animals together for their mutual benefit. These programs, which will continue year round, are tailored for children and adults of all ages and abilities, designed to meet their needs and challenges, as they learn about animals, kindness, and compassion for all. I think Jeff would love Kamp Kindness. For more information about Kamp Kindness, email us at KampKindness@RikkisRefuge.org JeffTeeShirt - SIZEDJeffMotorcycleYou can support Kamp Kindness at Rikki’s with a donation (www.RikkisRefuge.org/Donate) or by volunteering.  Learn more about my amazing cousin by visiting this link: http://RikkisRefuge.org/JeffBlountMemorial.html

Sunday the Goat

SUNDAY, the goat, is happy and thriving at Rikki’s Refuge now.  Sunday goat SIZED

She was found abandoned in the woods behind our Re-Tail Thrift Store. She was scared and skiddish. Our store staff set up a feeding station (finding out that she prefers grapes over EVERYTHING). They put grapes out for her daily, and wildlife cameras in order to establish her schedule.

Soon, she began to wander to a neighboring business to visit her “friends” (she was seeing her reflection in their windows). However, this was causing a distraction to drivers along the very busy road and was not safe for Sunday. Animal control was called many times, but they were never able to capture her.

Since she was looking for a friend, Re-Tail staff put a mirror in the woods so that she could see herself (thinking it was a friend) and she loved it! So, the experienced staff out at Rikki’s Refuge was called in to help and Sunday was caught safely and brought to Rikki’s where she has made new friends, both animal and human, and will be able to live out her life safely and loved.

We LOVE happy endings!!
