While the Rikki’s humans will feast on animal-friendly nums, Lars and Phil want to make sure every one of our 1,298 animal residents have a yummy Thanksgiving meal and are so they are in search of funds. For $1 a meal to feed a cat, a dog, a horse, a cow, a turkey and everything in between, can you help these two raise the funds in time for a Thanksgiving feast?? Help!

Heidi came to live at Rikki’s Refuge in 2016. She and her adoptive brothers –  all steers – came to us from a lovely couple in Virginia who could no longer care for them as their farm was being sold.  Prior to that, Heidi was part of a New York petting zoo dispersal  rescue and she was saved from going right to the slaughterhouse.Heidi cow field grass

In the large field at Rikki’s Refuge, Heidi is the only girl – and seems to know it and is large and in charge!! GIRL POWER!!
She is funny, silly, sometimes rambunctious girl!  We couldn’t imagine life at Rikki’s Refuge without this Heidi of ours!!

Sweet Petey

Look at the adorable smile on Petey’s face. He is a happy, happy resident at Rikki’s Refuge.
Petey goat smile smilingHis life wasn’t always so great ~~ Petey was found as a stray wondering the country lanes. His hooves had not had attention for ages, they had grown up and all around his feet. He was flea and tick infested. After pulling over 100 ticks off, we gave up and had to use chemicals. We didn’t want to because he was so anemic and so weak and passing several kinds of worms too. He was the skinniest goat we have ever seen.
It took over two months to build his strength up and put some weight on him so he could get neutered. And until he was neutered he had to stay in isolation. He might have been too weak to do much … but we feared what he might do if allowed to be with the goat herd !!!!Petey goat
