Orange County Virginia Animal Shelter Visit Orange County's Animal Shelter located at 11362 Porter Road, just a few minutes from Rikki's. (Go left out our driveway and second left onto Route 625, Porter Road). You'll be totally blown away at the dedication and totally modern philosophy of this rural country shelter. If you work with a rescue group or can volunteer or foster even one animal, please call the Director, Elizabeth Hamilton, 540-672-1124 and help her with the goal of "no kill".Many of you who came to Rikki's in the early days might remember the Orange County Shelter as a chaotic, over-stuffed and noisy place in the middle of an airfield. A place that didn't want to cooperate with other rescues groups and had a high kill rate. If that is what you remember, you have to come down and see what it has become -- and where it hopes to go. Now the dogs have nice, indoor-outdoor runs. The cats have their own section. There is an adoption room where adopters can meet individual animals. Rescue groups, including those from outside the area, are welcome and encouraged to help get the Orange County Shelter animals into areas where they can be adopted into good families. If you are live near the shelter, positions are open now. It's more ordinary than Rikki's. Usually just cats and dogs. But animals are always unexpected. It's more indoors than Rikki's is but dog runs have outdoor portions too.

Best Friends Many thanks to the McDonalds and the Best Friends Network for spreading the word about Rikki's! Read their wonderful write-ups and learn more!
