Our gate is locked unless we know people are coming. Please schedule a visit time with us before you make the drive out so we know to expect you.
During tours, open houses, and work parties the gate is just "latched" -- you have to get out of your car to open the latch, drive your car through and then latch the gate again so the sheep won't leave the property.

Here's
details on how to find the refuge once you're on Route 20.
Orange travel about 7 miles north. On the right you will pass
Routes 612, 629, and 631, you will see the Orange County Airport
on the left, pass Route 625 on the right, Route 600 on the left
and the right, route 628 on the left, when you see a white board
(horizontal, not picket) fence on the right slow down, pass that
fence and turn right on Barr Lane our gravel driveway right next
to the fence, if you come to a traffic light you went 2.4 miles
too far. Coming from Route 522 heading south on Route 20, you'll
travel 2.4 miles and pass route 617 on the right and 671 and 669
on the left, on the left you'll see a small green sign (like street
sign) pointing to the right that says "Grasslands", slow down,
watch for a white board (horizontal, not picket) fence on the
left and turn left onto Barr Lane, our gravel driveway, just before
the fence.
Now you're
on our driveway and it's a long mile to Rikki's office. Slow,
Slow, Slow. Please do not drive over 15 mph. The children
and pets of our neighbors are sometimes playing on or along this
road. About halfway down the driveway you'll come to our gate.
This gate is locked when we are not expecting visitors or volunteers.
Unless you are part of a scheduled work party or have made an
appointment to visit the animals, be sure to call us before you
come so that someone will be available to let you into the refuge.
If we are
expecting you, the gate will be latched, instead of locked. This
means you'll have to get out, undo the clip, open the gate, drive
through, shut the gate and put the clip back on. If you don't
lock up you will have to chase the goats and sheep and cows back
home! Continue down the driveway to the parking area and come
into the office.
All Visitors
and Volunteers must sign in at the office. Please find a staff
member or experienced volunteer who will be happy to sign you in.
